Improvements at Newton Farm

Newton farm
Overview

To make current toilet provision more adequate. Access by visitors to use family facilities at rear entrance to farmhouse will be changed for growing numbers and expectations of visitors and group visits, including wheelchair users of whom there are increasing numbers and requests. No baby changing currently available but 95% of business is families particularly under 5’s.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

The new toilets have prompted, and enabled, further additions to the business including adding a sleeper unit that can be used for multiple different purposes and the knowledge gained by people going on the tours has been a big achievement as well. It has become a big driver in supporting local produce and businesses.

How has your project benefited your local area?

Most people who come on the farm tours are from Angus and the project has hugely benefitted the area as adults and children have learned a great deal about where their food comes from. The project is also better able to accommodate different visitor types as there is now baby changing. There have also been strong mental health benefits as people are able to get outdoors, see animals, help out bottle-feeding lambs and have high-quality positive experiences when many people have been stuck in their houses or restricted in their movement.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Securing enough comparable quotes for the work and getting reliable tradespeople has been a huge challenge.
