Development of Rugby Pitch and Training Facilities

Overview

Changing facilities/WC, Equipment storage and Training Facilities with floodlights to enable all year round usage available for the use of the Brechin Community in general. The club previously struggled with very basic facilities, while also expending much energy supporting community engagement generally, not merely rugby activities.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

The initial fundraising success has been a massive achievement and project delivery has also been a great achievement as much of the logistics and construction work has been completed to a high standard by workers and friends in-house.

How has your project benefited your local area?

We are a very small club and, even though the project has not completed, the project has created the conditions, facilities and inspiration for the club to continue through what has been a very challenging time. The club has actually thrived over the last year when COVID has presented a huge challenge for most sports groups and the result has been more sports clubs using the facilities and increased membership. There have been strong enquiries from Brechin High School who were using the facilities up until COVID. It has been a driver for wellbeing development in general and not just rugby as groups such as pilates, boxing and archery look to use the facilities.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Working with, and getting work approved and completed by utilities has undoubtedly been the biggest challenge to project success. COVID has also made it very difficult to complete certain parts of the project as getting tradespeople was difficult at times.
